Are You Doing Your Homework???
So they've finally admitted we've been in a recession all year. Doh!
That being said, if you're nervous about your job prospects, whether it's keeping your current one, or finding one, are you doing your homework?
If you're the kind of person who always shows up unprepared, this is the wrong market. Actually, no job market is the right one for that. Fortune favors the prepared, as Mr. Pasteur said. You have a much better chance with luck when you are prepared to act when opportunities come your way.
So start doing your homework:
Update your resume with all the accomplishments and new skills you've gained this year
Identify what it would take for you to get your dream job
Research your ideal company, and what you'd need to have to succeed there
Develop or tweak your personal career development plan
That is a lot of work, but you can plan on doing a set number of tasks every week, or day (use a month and you'll likely procrastinate even more). And if the Pasteur quote doesn't get you, remember that old joke about the guy whining to god about winning the lottery? God's response was..."help me out a bit.. and actually buy a ticket!"
