Cultivating Your Networks
I got a LinkedIn email the other day from Pedro. Pedro is someone I met when I had a short term contract last summer. I have to say I love getting this kind of email, which was simply a 'been a while, how are you' kind of email.
Now, the chances are good that this is simply a keep in touch for networking as he's a recruiter. I don't know Pedro well enough to know if it's more than just a pipeline update, but it sets him apart from the crowd. I don't know him as well as other recruiters, some of which I consider friends. But I'd much rather deal with a recruiter who acts like I'm a human being instead of a skillset to compare to a job req.
Those cold-contact, generic and out of state recruiter emails get routed to the junk folder, and the senders are quickly forgotten.
That doesn't happen when someone says hello, how are you, just to touch base.
