Rejected

I had jury duty today and was a bit apprehensive as I am my sole source of income, the holidays are coming up, and my boss is about to leave the company.  I was on standby, but yesterday I got the notice to come in.  I can't really complain too much, because it's the first time I've ever been summoned for Jury Duty in Austin.  Back in Boston, it was pretty much guaranteed you'd get called up every two years if you hadn't changed addresses.

As I was sitting there I kept thinking, it would an interesting experience to sit on a jury, even as I winced at the thought of my emaciated income. I know that there is an attitude of if you're stupid enough to not get out of it, you aren't smart enough to serve, but it appeals my sense of civic duty (which should be bigger), and my analytical geekness (which is overdeveloped).

It was a good mix of people, demographically covering most of the proverbial map.  But none of us got to serve, as we all quickly screened out.  I'm mildly disappointed.
