Austin Hearts Zombies, and Austin Shatters Thriller Dance World Record
I never got around to making it to a practice lesson, and I completely forgot the time to actually witness and cheer on the participants but thankfully, it didn't ruin Austin's chance to shatter the Guinness World record for the largest synchronized Thriller dance. Officially, Thrill the World has claimed 65 cities participating in this across the globe. Austin contributed nearly 25% of the number of participants (another record, btw). The Alamo Drafthouse has been promoting Thrill the World for months, sponsoring lessons and showing promos about it, including a Final Fantasy Thriller promo. They even got the mayer to try it. For the real thing, though, he was one of the official wintesses for Guiness. I don't see the category on their website, though, but I'm sure it will be under Amazing Feats - Mass Participation - Largest Synchronized Thriller Dance.
As the Alamo has pointed out... the old record was 140 people. Austin had a mere 881 people.
See, Austin is just that cool of a town. Just last week, we had the annual Zombie Walk (see zombie prom queen and king, followed by Zombie docs, Zombie cheerleaders, and a Zombie jazz band).
If you aren't impressed yet, just check out the overhead shot of the Austin dancers. And if you're in Austin on November 1, you can see it again for the Day of the Dead. Information is at the Day of the Dead Procession link.
Congratulations to the Alamo, and everyone who participated, filmed, shot, and supported this. The world needs more fun.
And if that's not enough for you, the official overhead footage:
