Help Free Andrew Berends, Filmmaker Being Detained in Nigeria

BerendsNigeria02sep08.jpgWhile the focus of this blog is on career development and infogeeking, I do occasionally delve into other areas, more often than not, on film.  This post is a bit different.

Andrew Berends is a journalist and documentary filmmaker, and he needs help.  He is currently being detained in Nigeria, along with his interpreter.  The efforts made by contacting media and government in the US helped him get temporarily released with the condition of being back in detention. He's back in detention, and as of the latest reports today, has been questioned for over 3 hours with the State Security Service (SSS). Without representation.

I've already contacted my state level representatives. I urge all readers to do the same.  More information can be found on http://helpandy.wordpress.com/ as well as great wording to use in your letters, faxes, or phone calls.  His state senators, Senator Hillary Clinton, and Senator Charles Schumer have already tried reaching out to Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, but it would help if more people were speaking out to get some action on this, and bring Andrew Berends home.

Get the word out, folks.  I've already seen the good work the blogosphere and social media can do when people speak out. Let's use it to bring Andrew home quickly.
