Mister, Can You Spare 70 Cents?
Sorry I've been so quiet lately, but life has been really, really busy. In the last 36 hours, I've attended 3 PMI events or meetings alone, on top of work deadlines. So I've been quiet. I'll try to post something insightful or pithy over the weekend. After I catch up on other obligations.
But in the meantime, let me direct you to the Career Diva. She's talking about the minimum wage increase to $6.55. As she puts it, a 70 cent raise is a slap in the face.
I have to agree with her, especially when I had a startling conversation a couple weeks ago where someone felt it was impossible to live on $18/hr. Do you think your barista gets that much? The ones who aren't working in one of the 600 Starbucks scheduled to close down, that is.
Start factoring car costs (gas, maintenance, insurance, payments), skyrocketing food costs, housing, and general living expenses, can you imagine even trying to survive on $10/hr? No wonder we're a nation in debt, even without factoring in extravagant spending.
