What's in a Name? WorkSource becomes Workforce Solutions
WorkSource is now Workforce Solutions. When I heard about this, my first thought was do we really need this privatized state agency to be spending all the money it will cos to re-brand their sites and materials for a new name?
One of the press releases I saw stated that it was to have a unified front for workforce boards.
“The name change is part of a statewide effort to give the workforce network a common brand, making it easier for employers and job seekers to locate and access services across the entire state”, said Bill Imhoff, Chair of the Workforce Solutions – Capital Area Workforce Board. “Currently each area goes by a different name, making it somewhat difficult for customers doing business in multiple areas to access services. The common brand name is intended to make access easier for all.”
Only I'm not seeing it. When I I can even find it. I can't even find a centralized directory of local worksource/workforce solution sites. I've been hearing about this change since early spring, but I'm not seeing any consistency. There is no centralized directory of the local centers, the websites - if they exist- are not using a standardized domain naming convention, appearance, or logo.
If I poke around the Texas Workforce Commission site, I can find contacts of the local TWC Workforce Development Boards, but not the workforce office sites. If I go the the TWC site's Contact Information and Directories, I have to use a ZIP code to find a listing, there is not master listing. So me, being the helpful sort of person, can't direct friends in other Texas locales to their local Workforce Center site.
How bad is it? Take a look for the list below, and tell me if you can see any consistency:
And for those that have a site, they are all very different in appearance, with different logos. Seriously, every one of the above with a site, and a few more I found all had a different logo. When I did a Google search on the name change, it was chock full of "WorkSource changes it's name to..." for the different areas. So they had a consistent name before, and it looks like the only thing changing is words in the name.
In 2001 they did a rebranding to "WorkSource". Sounds like more bread and circus to me.
