UGs and SIGs: It's All About Connection

The event du jour was the monthly Central Texas Lectora User Group (CTLUG) meeting.   It made me realize something;  there is a whole lot of value in joining user groups and other special interest Groups (SIGs).

I joined the newly forming group back in December because I was working with the tool, and I figured it was a great way to meet others who use it, and maybe pick up some tricks.  But it's also a great way to stay current in the eLearning field, which has a broader scope than just one authoring tool.  Yes, UGs and SIGs are great networking resources, and a way to stay current on the subject, and I did hear about potential future gigs (nothing concrete, just some hints, so I know where to focus my attention).

But I found myself really appreciating hearing other people's stories, the challenges they face, and knowing it's not just me, or in some instances, it is, but then I get perspective about how I'm doing as well.  Through CTLUG, I found out about the Austin eLearning Symposium, and through that, the newly formed eLearning Council. And much more that helps me do a better job, and stay current.

It's all about connection.
