Matt Dentler's Last Day at SXSW
In the future, when talking in lines and making new friends at SXSW, someone will ask me how long I've been attending the film festival, and I'll say... since the Dentler Years.
So it wasn't decades of running the SXSW Film Festival and Conference, but he's leaving a lasting impression. Here's a list of films that stood out for me as SXSW, some were major theatrical releases, some are withering away without the audience they deserve. I can say I saw them at SXSW, with the best crowds, and thanks to Matt Denter.
These are just the highlights: Banlieue 13, Black Sheep, Boys of Baraka, The, Bush's Brain, Cavite, Dance of the Dead, Dear Zachary, Explicit Ills, Hard Candy, Helvetica, Hooligans, Murderball, Overnight, Pucker Up, Puppy, Shadow Company, Skills Like This, Straight-Jacket, The Chumscrubber, The Lather Effect, The Visitor, Them, Undead, Waterborne,
He was also involved with programming Fantastic Fest, which I attended the first two years; I don't know if he helped secure The Fountain, or Feast, or even Malifique, which still haunts me, but I'm sure he had something to do with it.
So even though we never got to talk face to face, thanks, Matt.
