With all the press about Blackwater these days, I thought I'd hype a documentary I found fascinating at SXSW a couple years ago. It's one I
Shadow Company is a balanced, intelligent look at private military companies, particularly in reference to their presence in Iraq, but also their evolution throughout history. I attended a screening with the director and some of the subjects of the film, and found him and the guests articulate, and most of the discussion provactive (despite a completely inappropriate anti-Iraq rant by an audience member).
While it hasn't come out in wide release, Shadow Company is available for purchase (either directly or at amazon, at least). It's been on my "must add to my library" list since I saw it. Netflix has it listed without a release date.
Regardless of your opinion for or against "mercenaries" or private military firms, you should check this one out.
