Help Me Help YOU
I generally try to keep this a positive forum. But I have to vent. I apologize in advance if this comes across a bit bitter. But if you need help from someone, put some effort into it yourself. Help me help you.
Remember when you were a child, and your parents and your teachers made you look up a word in the dictionary when you didn't know it? That should have been a life lesson you took to heart. Make an effort to work things out yourself before seeking assistance. And if you can't, then seek assistance, and remember, no one has to help you, especially those who aren't getting any compensation for it.
Try doing it yourself first. Learned or active helpless is irritating to say the least.
If someone asks that you provide information, provide it.
Don't require or expect instant gratification. Lack of planning on your part is not an emergency on mine. Or anyone else's.
Don't expect anyone to read your mind. Or to remember something from days or weeks ago. Especially if it wasn't relevant to anyone but you.
If you ask for advice, follow it. Don't dismiss it offhand. You asked in the first place.
Don't think "help me," think "what can I do to make it easier for you to help me." Is that really such a hard concept? And don't forget the golden words... Please, and Thank You.

Jen,
I would like to add one more:
* Get away from "Me" (What's in for me) and migrate to "You" (How can I be helpful to you)

Oh, one other thing... your name links back to the main URL for LinkedIn. You might want to use your vanity URL for your profile <http://www.linkedin.com/in/shailthakkar> instead.
